Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment whereby a shockwave machine used to pass sound waves through the skin to the painful area. It is procedure recognised by the NICE to help in the management of painful chronic conditions.
Shockwave therapy is also known as extracorporeal therapy. It may be used the treatment of many pain originating from the bones, muscles and tendons.
Some conditions where shockwave have been used successfully includes: heel pain (planter fasciitis), knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain including frozen shoulder.
Shockwave has been found to help where all others treatment techniques including injections have failed to relieved painful conditions.
In our practice, we have the latest shockwave therapy machine and the expertise to deliver the treatment safely.
It is not known exactly how this works, but it is thought that it might stimulate healing by providing more oxygen to the injured tissue, reduce bone pressure, increase circulation and promote healing.
